MHA: 60% of international borders in north east porous

Over 60% of India’s international borders in the Northeast with China, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan is porous, which along with internal socio-economic and historical factors has caused a “fragile security situation” in the region, the MHA says in its 2020-21 report. The fragile security situation has “resulted in violence, extortion and diverse demands by various Indian insurgent groups, which maintain safe havens/camps in neighbouring countries”, it says.

Disturbing that Navlakha case not moving, says SC

Observing that it is “disturbing” that trial proceedings against social activist Gautam Navlakha and others is not inching forward in the Elgaar Parishad case and not even charges have been framed in the last two years after chargesheet was filed in October 2020, the Supreme Court said that it would consider whether he could be allowed to come out of jail and be put under house arrest in view of his old age and medical problems.

50% of Congress tickets to go to youngsters: Mallikarjun Kharge

New Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has put the old guard of the Karnataka unit on notice by reportedly telling colleagues that he intends to reserve 50% tickets for “youngsters” in next year’s assembly elections. Kharge cited the party’s Udaipur declaration of this May when he is said to have made the comments at an event organised by the state unit on Sunday to felicitate him.

The Centre has reserved medical seats this year in government-run colleges across the country for children maimed by terrorism in J&K or whose parent(s) either died or suffered permanent disability in a terrorist attack. he reservation for MBBS and BDS courses was made from the central pool with effect from the academic year 2022-23, a Union home ministry notification said, but didn’t specify how many spots would be set aside.
