Massive fire breaks out at market in Assam, 150 shops gutted

A massive fire broke out at a market in Assam's Jorhat district late on Thursday, gutting at least 150 shops, police said. Twenty-five fire tenders were fighting the blaze at Chowk Bazaar in the heart of Jorhat town and it was yet to be brought under control, they said.

JEE (Main) registration for session 2 to end on March 12

The second session of the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2023 will be conducted from April 6 to April 12, with April 13 and 15 kept as reserved days. The online application started on February 15 and would continue till March 12 (9pm). Candidates who had already appeared in January (first session) will log in with the same credentials and pay the examination fee for the April exams.

States offer tax incentives for scrapping old vehicles

A dozen states and Union territories have come on board to offer motor vehicle tax or road tax concessions while buying new vehicles in lieu of scrapping old ones. Five states have also notified a one-time waiver of pending liabilities on vehicles older than 15 years which are scrapped at the Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities.

Yamunotri ropeway gets nod, to cut travel time from 5hrs to 10 mins

For the ambitious project, 3.8 hectares of land will now be transferred and construction of the 3.7km-long (aerial distance) ropeway - which will connect the Yamunotri shrine to Kharsali village - will "start soon in earnest". The ropeway is set to reduce travel time from five hours to a mere 10 minutes.
