End conflict, finalise MoP, House panel tells govt, SC
The Parliamentary standing committee on law has asked the government and the Supreme Court to “weed out their differences” and finalise the revised memorandum of procedure for appointment of judges in higher judiciary. The MoP is pending for over seven years, the panel observed, while expressing concern at over 30% vacancies in high courts across the country.

Barely 6-9% of traffic fines raised through e-challans realised
Traffic rule enforcement agencies across the country have recovered barely 6-9% of the fines slapped through e-challans on drivers and vehicle owners, government data for the past three years show. In 2020, against Rs 1,375-crore fines imposed for flouting traffic rules, the agencies recovered only Rs 125 crore, only 9% of the total challan amount.

Aadhaar to soon die with holder’s death
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Registrar General of India have begun work on rolling out a mechanism that will allow for deactivation of Aadhaar once a death certificate is issued. Once a death certificate is issued by the agency concerned, a communication will be shared with the family members of the deceased and only after their consent the number will be deactivated, official sources said.
