He began his tentacles to adjoining parts of Prayagraj, and even Lucknow. In 2015, he tried to capture a big tract of land, belonging to a well-known trader of the city whose shop was the destination for fashion aficionados. Cops then posted in Lucknow say, Atiq himself was present at the site when his men tried to take possession of the land.

Killing of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf: Retired HC judge to head three-member probe panel

The commission will be headed by Allahabad high court judge (retd) Arvind Kumar Tripathi, and will have two other members – retired judge Brijesh Kumar Soni and former DGP Subesh Kumar Singh. The commission will give its report in two months. Principal secretary, home, Sanjay Prasad confirmed the constitution of the inquiry committee.
