UP gangster shot dead in court by man in lawyer’s clothes
Jailed gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva, an associate of don-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, and convicted for the murder of former UP minister Brahma Dutt Dwivedi, was shot dead outside a crowded courtroom in Lucknow on Wednesday. The assailant, Vijay Yadav, told cops that he had been promised Rs 20 lakh for the job by an unknown person. He was to be delivered the entire sum after killing Jeeva.

Indian, German firms ink MoU to bid for Rs 42,000 crore deal
An MoU to cooperate in submarine production was inked between defence shipyard Mazagon Docks (MDL) and German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) on Wednesday, as a precursor to submission of a bid for the over Rs 42,000 crore project to build six diesel-electric submarines for the Navy.

Fraudulent claim on body makes Odisha sound alarm
As several of the dead in the Bahanaga train tragedy continue to remain unidentified, a woman’s fraudulent attempt at claiming one of the bodies as that of her husband’s on Sunday has prompted the Odisha government to sound an alarm. Pradeep Kumar Jena, state chief secretary, on Monday asked the railways and the Odisha police to take action against such fake claimants, who may resort to fraudulent tactics to claim compensation.

Rail denies cut in safety bill, says Rs 1 lakh crore spent in 5 years

In a dramatic turn of events, the protesting wrestlers have reengaged with the government for a resolution of the standoff over their demand for arresting former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, leading to a de-escalation in the agitation, at least for now.
