A government girls’ school teacher in Bandipora district of north Kashmir was arrested on Tuesday following a student’s complaint to police that he had forcibly removed and torn her hijab inside the classroom. She also claimed that the teacher had been consistently targeting and harassing her and other students for wearing headscarves.

After SC prod, Centre sends 70 names for high court judges

Pushed by the court to either clear names for judgeship expeditiously or be ready for unpalatable order, the Centre on Monday told SC that it cleared 70 names forwarded by high courts and sent to the SC collegium and also took the decision to transfer 12 HC judges out of 26 recommended.
