The Rajya Sabha has passed the women's reservation bill, which proposes to give 33% reservation to women in the lower house and legislative assemblies. The bill was also cleared in the Lok Sabha with overwhelming support. However, the opposition's demands for immediate implementation, quota for OBCs and Muslims, and a caste-wise headcount were not accepted. The proposed law can only be enforced after the census and delimitation exercise, which is set to happen after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
