It was globally the hottest August on record – by a large margin – and the second-hottest month ever after July 2023, said the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) analysing data from the European Union-funded Copernicus Climate Change Service on Wednesday. The data indicates ’23 is likely to be the hottest year on record as the year so far (January to August) has been the second warmest on record after 2016.
