Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee broke her silence on the cash-for-query controversy involving Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Thursday, rallying behind her and declaring BJP's alleged attempt to oust her from Parliament "a foolish thing to do". "This way, they will end up making her more popular," Mamata said at a party convention in Kolkata, echoing Moitra's claim that the parliamentary ethics committee's report recommending her expulsion had turned her into "Jhansi ki Rani". TMC reinstated Moitra as the party's Krishnanagar district president recently, with Mamata endorsing the appointment.
