Chilli prices drop in Karnataka, farmers on rampage

Farmers protest 10% slump in chilli prices in Byadagi market, Haveri district. They vandalize vehicles, torch two, attack officials, leaving 30 injured. Chilli now costs 39,000, down from 43,000 per 100kg. Anguished farmers, expecting about 4,000 per quintal, lost their patience when offered less and started arguing with traders, who claimed the price was closely tied to the quality of produce.
