Daily Covid cases cross 1k after 130 days; 19 deaths in 7 days

A week after hitting the 500 mark, daily cases of Covid-19 in India crossed 1,000 on Saturday for the first time in 130 days, as the case count, which has been inching up for five weeks, rose more sharply in the past seven days. While west and south India accounted for most of the new cases, infections have started rising in the north as well.

15k women underwent breast reduction ops in India in 2021

While breast implants get a lot of attention, a growing number of Indian women are compelled by severe physical and psychological problems to undergo surgery to reduce their heavy breasts. In 2021, around 15,000 women across India opted to remove the fat and glandular tissue from their breasts as against double the number of women (31,608) who got breast implants. Training plane crashes in MP, both pilots killed

A training aircraft crashed in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday afternoon, killing both pilots — captain Mohit Thakur from Himachal Pradesh and V Maheshwari, a trainee from Gujarat. The plane, a Diamond DA-40, operated by the National Flying Training Institute (NFTI), had taken off from Birsi airport in Gondia district of Maharashtra, and crashed approximately 40km away in a dense forest in Balaghat.

Probe finds illegal accounts in hospital to use pharma donations

An inquiry has found that heads of 11 departments of J J Hospital’s Grant Medical College (GMC) opened and operated unauthorised bank accounts in the name of respective departments. A sum of Rs 6 crore was collected in these accounts and almost half of it was then used for expenses such as foreign trips without permission, said state medical education minister Girish Mahajan and added that strong action will be taken within one month against those found guilty.
