961 arrested for child marriages in Assam

A total of 961 people were arrested in Assam for participating in child marriages, marking the second crackdown by the state government this year. Of those arrested, 551 were men who married underage girls, 351 were family members, and 14 were marriage solemnisers. The districts of Dhubri and Barpeta had the highest number of arrests. The previous crackdown resulted in over 3,000 arrests, with a total of 4,823 people now arrested in Assam for child marriages in the last five years.
